Using AI to Create an Event Rental Service
From Idea to Implementation: Launching the Terrarium Bar Rental Service Using AI
As Terra Cotta Plant Boutique gears up to launch our first rental service, I wanted to take some time to share my experience in the process of creating this new offering. This is the first time I have created a rental service, and it was a long time in the making. It wasn't easy for many reasons, but I'm finally on the other side of the creation process, and I want to share everything I learned. I hope in sharing my story, I can offer guidance and encouragement to any small business owner struggling to move forward with building a new product or service.
Branching Out in 2024
Terra Cotta Plant Boutique has primarily been a retail boutique for most of its existence. I enjoy sourcing and purchasing wholesale products and creating a cozy botanical space for my customers. In 2024, I branched out a lot in terms of festivals, learning about what customers really liked about my store and what more they would like to see. The air plant terrarium bar that I put together for my pop-up shops always seemed to do the best. People love how cute the terrariums are, and they really like how the setup is so decorative and unique. That's where I started playing with the idea of setting up terrarium bars for events beyond pop-up shops. I could see my displays at wedding receptions, birthday parties, special occasions, and even corporate holiday parties and events.
From Intimidation to Action
There was a lot of room for me to experiment with types of plants, terrarium styles, and decorative options. But this idea quickly became intimidating because I didn't know how to make it happen. The thought of getting it from my head to real life was daunting, to say the least. I tucked the idea away for quite some time, but now that I am a part of a professional business organization (see previous blog post for more on that), I felt like I had the energy to tackle my fears around this dream and at least try to get it in a forward motion.
Breaking Through the Wall
Starting is the hardest part. I think most of us have had the experience where sitting down and actually focusing on the task felt impossible. But trust me when I say that everything you want to create is on the other side of that wall. I decided to sit down and set a timer for 60 minutes. I didn't force myself to have a specific task completed. I didn't even know what I was going to work on. I simply created space to focus on it.
Utilizing AI for Clarity
If you use ChatGPT, you already know what a helpful tool it is. I opened my computer, poured all my thoughts about the terrarium bar rental into the text box as detailed as I possibly could, and let AI create the framework for everything I needed. I also asked it to provide an outline of everything I would need to do from start to finish to make this a fully fleshed-out service. In a matter of moments, I had a draft for everything, from the service description, the rental agreement, and a contract. Of course, it wasn't perfect, but it was the start of seeing this idea become a reality. All of a sudden, I was no longer overwhelmed with where to start.
Daily Progress and Refinement
Using the materials and outlines I was given, I decided to take a little time every day to go through each piece of information and fill in the details with more accuracy. Did the prices work? Would I charge additional fees like late fees or deposits? What would my delivery zones be, and how would I charge for travel? I finally had the right questions in front of me and I could start answering them. Once the juices started to flow, they came with such ease and excitement. The more I worked on each section, the more it felt like a reality instead of a far-off dream.
The Importance of Clarity and Support
How we feel about the work we do is everything. If we feel confused, anxious, or overwhelmed, it keeps us from exploring with a spirit of creativity and curiosity. For me, AI provided a path of clarity. It helped me take a jumbled mix of thoughts and ideas and get them out in an organized way so that I could really see what I had already and what the next steps were to keep building on that foundation. I was amazed that it only took me a week to put something together that I am so proud of and excited to share with my local community.
A New Beginning
I know it is only the beginning, but I have so many more ideas for this rental service already. Thinking back on how hesitant I was to act on this desire makes me feel proud that I chose to pursue it despite feeling confused and doubtful that I could make it happen. I will discuss this experience in more detail on the Terra Cotta Plant Boutique YouTube channel and social media pages as well. Be sure to check those out and join us in those communities!
